An abandoned gas station, at an exit off Highway 85, Sentinel, Arizona. It is between Gila Bend and Dateland, going south towards Yuma from Phoenix.
Do you call this "urban decay" when there is little that is "urban"? There are just a couple buildings here now, and the exit sign points to two towns that are off in the distance. The whole concept of the relationship between the term "sentinel" and the actual place name of Sentinel lends real irony to this leftover structure from man's imposing upon nature in a wide open place and space.
This is my favorite photo of the present: after much uncertainty and pressing family emergencies, I am seeking out the beautiful, the still, and the calm images from my recent travels around the state.
Final compilation of the "One Sky" images, created from photo quilt blocks of 4 images from the One Sky group project. Oh I would sleep peacefully under such a quilt!
Each set of four images can be found in this set, where there are links directly back to each flickr member who contributed their sky image to the group pool for "One Sky".
