Excitement 'round this house: I've got a "new" car! Yeah for my 1991 Dodge Dynasty LE. My new compatriot really does look like the photo in the Consumer Reports Guide link! The verrrrry best that $625 can buy, too! After spending about $300 per month for the last three months on cabs, I decided to "go for broke" all too literally and spent every last dime, nickel and other "cash" and paid out all I had for this vehicle. Although I am not yet out of my "walking boot" left from the Sept. 5 car crash that totalled my previous car and left me with a broken foot (which I would not wish on my worst enemy), I got this gem.
My main requirements in a vehicle were: 1. price, 2. price, and 3. mo car. As in, I had to get an older car to insure there was more real metal in it. As opposed to the 1995 Mitsubushi Mirage which was totalled in my 5 mph accident. Really, a student ran an intersection I was mostly cleared and the impact put my car on fire, bringing some of the engine right thru my dash. My life was saved by the shoulder seat belt harness and the airbags. When the fire started in the engine and smoke billowed out, I was lucky to be able to squeeze out the door and throw myself to the ground and crawl away from the car. Never again will I own a teensy car with lots of fiberglass. In fact, I'll never again buy a car with "less" around me than this new car of mine. Closest I could find available to my favorite and sadly deceased 1995 Buick Century. Did I mention ever that THAT car was totalled this same year in March by another student, this one who backed out of his driveway going hellforbroke. His old Jeep totalled my Buick! I can hardly wait to find out what my new insurance rate will be for having two cars totalled in six months. The year 2003 can just be written outta the history books as far as I am concerned. The cars accidents, a broken foot, poverty, and then there is the whole disgusting Iraq War. What a year.
The bad news? Well, I have the car but... there is not a cent left to purchase a license plate or insurance. This Chrismas is lookin' mighty meager. But, being poor with a car beats the alternative, right? Hopefully I'll have some more good news yet before 2004, but no one should be holding their breath for me. I will appreciate good vibes sent this way toward me in Iowa. And here is hoping that any readers of this blog is having things go well for them.
